Board President Amy Hewitt Testifies at the Reauthorizing Autism CARES Act of 2019 Hearing

Amy Hewitt, AUCD Board President and Director of the Institute on Community Integration, University of Minnesota, gave a powerful testimony on the importance of reauthorizing Autism CARES at the Energy and Commerce Committee Hearing on Tuesday, June 25, 2019.



AUCD Celebrates the Anniversary of the Olmstead Decision

"Olmstead sent a clear message that people with disabilities have a right to thrive in their own homes, and that self-determination and community integration are not just aspirational goals, but a fundamental human right," said Andrew Imparato, Executive Director of the Association of University Centers on Disabilities.



OHSU UCEDD Hosts Transition Town Hall

The UCEDD at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) Institute on Development and Disability hosted a community town hall to highlight transition resources available for families, professionals, and providers. This event was in partnership with Autism Speaks and Autism Society of Oregon, and included sponsorship from the Tiffany Foundation.



President Donald Trump's Intent to Appoint Personnel to the President 's Committee for People with Intellectual Disabilities (PCPID)

The PCPID has 31 members: 18 citizens, and 13 ex officio (federal government) members. A maximum of 21 citizen members is allowed. Citizen members are appointed by the President and serve for a maximum of two years. A variety of individuals are appointed as citizen members, including parents of individuals with intellectual disabilities, scientists and professionals from the field, community and business representatives, and systems advocates.



President's Budget FY16: Expanding Opportunities for People with Disabilities

President Obama has just released his Fiscal Year 2016 Budget Request to the Congress. The budget includes many funding requests to expand opportunities for people with disabilities, including throughout the AUCD Network.



Department of Justice and HHS Office for Civil Rights Letter on FLSA and Olmstead

The US Department of Justice Civil Rights Division and Department of Health and Human Services Office for Civil Rights released this joint dear colleague letter regarding the Olmstead obligations of state implementing the Fair Labor Standards Act as it relates to home care workers.

President's Committee for People with Intellectual Disabilities Holds 2014 Meeting

Committee now has record number of people with disabilities and many AUCD network members

The President's Committee for People with Intellectual Disabilities held their 2014 meeting September 3-5. The committee how has significantly more members with intellectual disabilities and strong representation from the AUCD network.



UPDATED: CMS Releases Final Rule on Home and Community Based Services

On January 10 the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services issued a regulation that greatly strengthens access to community-based services in the Medicaid program. On March 20, CMS released a toolkit of materials for states and stakeholders.



Combating Autism Reauthorization Act of 2014 Introduced in the House

Bill includes five year continued authorization for funding LEND and DBP training programs

On Friday, May 9, Representatives Chris Smith (R-NJ) and Mike Doyle (D-PA) introduced a bill to reauthorize the Combating Autism Act for five years. The bill, HR 4631, has 35 bipartisan cosponsors.



HCBS Advocacy Site Launched

This site - created by the National DD Network partners - will help states and advocates from learn, post, and share information and resources to improve implementation of the HCBS settings rule and improve community services for people with disabilities and older people across the nation.



Senator Harkin Announces New 6x15 Campaign

At the Disability Policy Seminar on Monday night, Senator Harkin announced a new campaign led by six national disability organizations to achieve six national goals by the end of 2015, marking major anniversaries of the ADA and IDEA.

Join the Family Support SIG at the AUCD Annual Meeting, November 18, 2013 at 12:45-2:00pm.



Community of Practice Project (MO UCEDD, with NASDDDS, NACDD and HSRI)

This five year grant will identify and implement policies and practices that will serve as a national framework for states to use to support families with members with I/DD across the lifespan. 5 states will each form a team that is facilitated jointly by the state I/DD service system office and the state Council on Developmental Disabilities with additional membership from self-advocacy and family organizations, university, education, aging and other organizations.
