Policy Analyst

AUCD is seeking to fill a full-time position for a Policy Analyst. The Policy Analyst works with the Director of Legislative Affairs, the Executive Director, the AUCD Board and Legislative Affairs Committee to implement the Association's legislative and federal advocacy priorities and strategies. The Policy Analyst helps to coordinate and conduct activities that educate the AUCD network on policy issues and provides analysis of the impact of federal legislation and regulatory changes for its members and persons with disabilities and their families. The Policy Analyst develops and maintains working relationships with Members of Congress, the Administration and their staff; prepares testimony for congressional hearings; and uses other appropriate methods of communicating the Association's views and positions. The Policy Analyst works in coalition with nonprofit professional and advocacy organizations for the purpose of developing and coordinating advocacy efforts. The Policy Analyst will also work on projects related to strengthening the capacity of the AUCD or its network of centers as assigned.
Required Knowledge and Skills
Demonstrated effectiveness in legislative advocacy as applied to the issues and concerns related to children and adults with disabilities; knowledge of the federal legislative and executive regulatory processes; knowledge of current developments in the field of disability policy, education, health and social services legislation as related to the work of AUCD Centers and programs; excellent written and verbal communication skills with experience using electronic tools for information exchange and consensus building. At least a bachelor's degree in a field related to public policy, health, education, social services or law.
Preferred Knowledge and Skills
Familiarity with the capacity and activities of the national network of University Centers for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDD), Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities (LEND); and the Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Research Centers (IDDRC); and direct experience in working with children and adults with disabilities and their families.
