The Golden Gate Regional Center is seeking a part-time Consulting Physician. The mission of GGRC is to build inclusive communities by connecting and developing innovative services and supports responsive to the needs and aspirations of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families while educating and informing all community members about the rights, value, and potential of human diversity. GGRC is one of 21 regional centers in California and currently serves 10,000 communities in Marin, San Mateo, and San Francisco with the support of its 130 dedicated social workers.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

Serves as an experienced physician, up to 20 hours weekly, in a part-time consultative role and lead member of interdisciplinary team in determining eligibility for center services. With genuine interest in serving the developmentally disabled community, provides medical evaluations of diagnosis if one exists and assessments of individuals’ level of function for potential and on-going clients; holds primary responsibility of oversight and assessment of physical health and care of clients, medical needs, treatments, determination of interventions, conservatorship, and other pertinent concerns. Familiarity with Lanterman and Early Start regulations, governmental and non-governmental resources available for applicants/clients; Critical thinker and problem solver, able to shift when change occurs, provide thoughtful insight, penchant for brainstorm, and desire to pioneer for change. Active listener with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Respectful, culturally sensitive and aware, with ability to work effectively with culturally diverse populations in multi-cultural settings and or multi- lingual capable.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Serve as a Consulting Physician and liaison with the general medical community, families and case managers with providers of care.

  1. Primary responsibility of oversight and assessment of physical health and care of clients, medical needs, treatments, determination of interventions, conservatorship, and other pertinent concerns.
  2. Provides consultation to Social Workers, nurses and other staff on medical matters and aspects of developmental disability and care needs, including complex medical issues for continuing cases, use of psychotropic medications and poly pharmacy, issues related to consent for medical treatment, and advance directives.
  3. Review clients’ records of medical and developmental history and make recommendations.
  4. Counsel clients’ families and others as appropriate.
  5. Serve as ambassador to all three counties within the Agency; Actively participates in community outreach as required.
  6. Stay abreast of new research, approaches, policies, laws, methods, or technologies in area of expertise.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  1. Medical Degree (M.D.) Possession of a license to practice medicine in California issued by the State Board of Medical Examiners at the time of hire and ability to maintain license in good standing.
  2. 2 + years in developmental disabilities or possession of MPH and 1+ years’ work with developmentally disabled and experience managing or working with programs for developmentally disabled.
  3. Certification or eligibility for certification by specialty board such as Pediatrics, Internal Medicine, Neurology, Family Practice, 2+ years post-graduate work, one of which must be in the field of developmental disabilities.

Part-time, 0.5 FTE - Work Hours: Flexible, Mon - Fri, up to 20 hours weekly

ANTICIPATED SALARY:

$90,260 - $108,311 for 0.5FTE

WORK LOCATION:

Hybrid – San Francisco, Marin, San Mateo, Remote
