Physical Therapist, Pediatric - Children's Clinics - Tucson, Arizona                  

Provides comprehensive physical therapy assessment, treatment, consultation and coordination to Children's Clinics eligible patients.  Outpatient Clinic, days.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Provides physical therapy evaluation, treatment, consultation, and care coordination for pediatric and adult (up to approximately age 25y/o) patients with neurological, cardiovascular, sensory, and orthopedic impairments.
  • Conducts age-appropriate clinical and functional physical therapy assessments. Develops therapy treatment plans based upon assessment findings and patient/family input.
  • Works as a member of a team in a coordinated fashion to maximize patient outcomes.
  • Conducts adaptive equipment evaluations.  Submits requests for adaptive equipment, including letters of medical necessity. Provides appropriate patient and family education on the use of adaptive equipment.
  • Supervises support personal in accordance to APTA and Arizona State Board of Physical Therapy guidelines.
  • Provides advanced level-direct patient treatment, according to treatment plan, updating treatment plan according to patient progress and established policies.
  • Participates, as appropriate, in assessment for and delivery, fitting, and modification of bracing.. Provides appropriate patient training and education in use of bracing.
  • Documents assessments, treatments, consultations, patient/family education, and all relevant and required patients care information, according to established policy.
  • Maintains patient record confidentiality consistent with HIPAA guidelines.
  • Fabricates serial casts and lower extremity splints. Provides patient/family instruction in care and use.
  • Maintains safe care environment for patients; collaborates in maintenance of therapy equipment and supplies inventories.
  • Provides physical therapy consultation to assigned specialty clinics.
  • Participates in interdisciplinary specialty clinics as the expert on physical development, motor skills, adaptive equipment, and mobility.
  • Serves as educator in appropriate areas to patients, families, clinic staff, school staff, and others involved in patient care and programming.
  • Communicates effectively with team members, patients, families, and community healthcare professionals. 
  • Uses effective verbal and non-verbal communication.
  • Participates in quality improvement and program development activities in specialty area, work team and as assigned, in cross-functional teams.
  • Positions self in a variety of positions, including floor sitting, chair sitting, and standing in order to provide physical support to children in the context of physical therapy sessions. 
  • Safely transfers/lifts patients and equipment routinely weighting up to 25 lbs. and occasionally weighing up to 100 lbs.
  • Participates in new staff orientation and ongoing staff education.  Occasionally provides education on areas of expertise. 
  • Accurately codes services to facilitate reimbursement for services provided.
  • Documents therapy services in the electronic health record in an accurate and timely manner, in accordance with clinic policies.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's, Master's, or Doctor of Physical Therapy Degree from an accredited Physical Therapy program.  Two (2) years of related experience preferred.

Delivers primary or specialty care to new and established patients in accordance with the licensure and the highest standards of quality, integrity and compassion.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Selects and administers appropriate standardized measures. Administers standardized measures reliably. 
  • Reliably adheres to APTA and Arizona State Board of Physical Therapy guidelines.
  • Demonstrates a working knowledge of a variety of therapeutic treatment techniques for pediatric physical therapy.
  • Demonstrates a working knowledge of child development as is applicable to the field of physical therapy.
  • Working knowledge of fundamentals of pediatric bracing and ability to assess patient's bracing needs independently as part of an interdisciplinary team (physician, orthotist, and therapist).
  • Ability to fabricate and modify lower extremity splints and serial casts, and to educate patient and family in proper splint/cast care and use. Ability to safely remove fiberglass casts using the cast saw.
  • Working knowledge of seating and positioning fundamentals and mobility equipment.
  • Ability to safely and effectively use electro-physiological or mechanical equipment for the provision of physical therapy care.
  • Ability to operate personal computer, dictaphone, printer, calculator, fax, shredder, copier, and other office equipment as needed.
  • Exhibits proficiency with basic computer programs including MS Word. Ability to use the electronic health record accurately and efficiently with training.
  • Working knowledge of primary agencies serving health, behavioral, social and educational needs of children with special health care needs in southern Arizona.
