The University of Connecticut's AJ Pappanikou Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities Education, Research and Service (UCEDD) is the UCEDD for the State of CT. It is funded by the Administration on Developmental Disabilities and authorized under the Developmental Disabilities Assistance and Bill of Right Act of 2004. The purpose of a UCEDD is to provide university-based training, community services including training and technical assistance, research and dissemination with and on behalf of people with disabilities and their families, across the lifespan. The CT UCEDD's emphasis areas as taken from the DD Act and regulations for the UCEDD program are early intervention and schools; Health and Mental Health; Community Inclusion; and Leadership Development. As part of the national network of 67 University Centers for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDDs), we share a vision that foresees a nation in which all Americans, including Americans with disabilities, participate fully in their communities.

The Pappanikou Program has a direct reporting relationship to the Office of the Exeuctive Vice President and has affiliations with Medical and Dental School Departments and Schools within the University. The Pappanikou Program also has a strong community presence and has partnerships with state and local agencies and 6 other Institutions of Higher Education in CT. In addition the Pappanikou Program has administered a number of National Research Institutes and other projects of National Significance in Developmental Disabilities research, training and technical assistance.

The Pappanikou Program is seeking a candidate for one full time tenure track position in Developmental Disabilities. Rank will be based on qualifications. Depending on rank, the successful candidate will have an emerging (Assistant) or established (Associate/Full) national reputation for interdisciplinary scholarship, teaching, and service within the field of Developmental Disabilities. The successful candidate will be involved with the research core function of the UCEDD, as described in the DD Act of 2004.

Responsibilities of the Research Faculty:

This position will provide interdisciplinary leadership to the UCEDD, University and State and Nation by identifying, developing and evaluating research initiatives that benefit persons in Connecticut influenced and affected by developmental and other disabilities.

This position will be responsible for assisting the Pappanikou Center Director and developing, directing and implementing a wide variety of research and evaluation activities under the UCEDD's 5 year strategic plan including 1) coordinating an annual evaluation of the Pappanikou Program's accomplishments and outcomes; 2) designing and implementing applied qualitative and quantitative research projects; 3) developing research proposals to secure private, state and federal funding to sustain and expand the Pappanikou Program's research and evaluation agenda; 4) providing policy analysis related to programs demonstrating the full inclusion of people with disabilities in education, work and community life; 5) supervising graduate assistants, teaching or co-teaching a course in constituency-oriented Research and Dissemination; and 6) performing other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

1) A doctoral degree in special education, education, psychology, public health or a related field by time of appointment; 2) Evidence of an exemplary emerging (Assistant) or established (Associate/Full) program of disability related research scholarship; 3) Potential for (Assistant) or evidence of (Associate/Full) securing and/or coordinating external funding; 4) Evidence of effective application of research and evaluation designs using qualitative and quantitative designs; 5) Evidence of experience working with persons with disabilities in applied settings; 6) Evidence of experience managing interdisciplinary groups of students and faculty; 7) Evidence of a commitment to enhancing the quality of life of children and adults with developmental disabilities; 8) effective communication and interpersonal skills; 9) technical and professional research and writing experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

1) Evidence of scholarship and/or funding in one or more of the following areas: (a) the diagnosis and intervention of persons with Autism Spectrum Disorders, (b) transitions with a focus on school to adulthood, or (c) delivery and evaluation of health care to individuals with disabilities; 2) Evidence of service to the university, field, or profession focused on developmental disability (e.g., leadership role in professional organizations; editorial activities; university service; leadership role on state, regional, and/or national committees); 3) Evidence of integrating technology into research and evaluation design; 4) Evidence of working collaboratively with interdisciplinary colleagues and others (e.g., students, university and state leaders) on disability related projects and education; 5) Ability to interact and communicate with individuals with disabilities and their families, human services providers from a variety of disciplines and levels, and university and state level personnel.
