GENERAL DESCRIPTION The University of Michigan, School of Nursing is seeking a highly qualified Research Assistant Professor for a full-time position with our newly formed Center for Improving Patient and Population Health (CIPPH). Applicants should have formal training and experience conducting descriptive, intervention, and/or implementation science studies that are focused on improving health and health care outcomes for individuals or communities. Examples of expertise include, but are not limited to: secondary data analysis, survey research, qualitative inquiry, mixed methods research, intervention development and testing, and/or implementation science.

CIPPH was established in 2017 in the School of Nursing to accelerate high-impact scholarship among interdisciplinary faculty in the focal areas of patients with cancer, patients with complex care needs, healthcare delivery science, and vulnerable populations. The research portfolio of CIPPH investigators currently includes multi-site survey research, behavioral interventions, implementation studies, and applications of simulation methods for health professional education. We envision a scientist to join our team to build a program of research and support existing and emerging research in the field. Priorities include a team member who can lead efforts to submit competitive grant applications, partner with Center investigators in study design, data collection, and analysis, and publication of scientific papers. Experience conducting research in the health care sector is strongly preferred.  

The position is anticipated to be filled during the 2018-2019 academic year. Applicants will be considered for the rank listed above, depending on experience and research productivity. NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS

  • A research doctorate (PhD) in the health services research, social sciences, nursing, or a related field is required.
  • For nursing PhDs, a current MI nursing license is required or eligible for a nursing license in the state of Michigan.
  • Demonstrated research productivity; the ability to conduct independent research with the promise of developing into an independent scholar.
  • High-quality peer reviewed publications.
  • Potential evidence of extramural funding.
  • Demonstrated expertise in the candidate's area of scholarly focus, as evidenced by publications and grant submissions/awards.
  • Candidate must have excellent communication skills, with the ability to receive and convey information clearly and concisely for various mediums. You will be expected to have solid interpersonal and organizational skills, and the ability to work effectively with diverse groups.
  • Effective interpersonal skills and a drive to excel are expected.
  • Ability to work simultaneously on multiple projects is required.
  • An admirable record of academic, professional and community service.
  • A reputation among colleagues for outstanding achievements and recognized contributions in their field of expertise.
  • Prior to start date must be in compliance with all health requirements including standard precautions such as Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, orientations, licenses/certifications, policies and procedures both internal and external to the University for your assigned classroom(s) and/or clinical site(s).

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

The School will support this position fully for the initial two (2) years, with a decreasing share thereafter and the expectation that the individual selected will secure sponsored funds to maintain full-time employment. The individual is expected to submit grants as Principal Investigator, or Co-Investigator with other faculty members.

Furthermore, applicants with the strong potential for or documented evidence of extramural funding, potential for development into an independent scholar, and potential for non-didactic teaching/mentoring of fellows, and junior research colleagues or students are strongly preferred.
