Associate Health Innovation Team - HCM Strategists, Washington, DC

HCM Strategists, a public policy and advocacy consulting firm known nationally for its leadership in health and medical research advocacy and education policy, seeks a mission-driven, creative and innovative strategic thinker with a "roll-up your sleeves" approach to join our Health Innovation Team as an Associate.

The Associate will serve as a key member of our client teams, including the NIH's All of Us Research Program, to support and manage a variety of work streams and assist in client deliverables. Responsibilities include:

  • Researching, drafting, and copy-editing memos, briefs, reports, action alerts, presentations, newsletters and other client deliverables.
  • Building and maintaining databases on client-facing relationships and activities.
  • Supporting the development and implementation of creative outreach and engagement strategies to advance client priorities.
  • Performing research and analysis on complex policies, legislation, and stakeholder landscapes.
  • Translating concepts into common language accurately, clearly and within a short timeframe for various audiences.
  • Project management duties including drafting and maintaining project timelines; assisting with meeting agenda development, scheduling and logistics; and participating in and taking notes/minutes for team and client calls and meetings, as needed.
  • Building relationships with key stakeholders based on a client's needs (e.g., federal agency and congressional staff, public policy and advocacy professionals, etc.).
  • Supporting the development of presentations and briefings documents for senior staff.
  • Representing firm or client at briefings, hearings and meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Requirements:

  • Familiarity with and interest in medical research and health policy
  • Experience in community engagement and in working with underserved populations
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university
  • 3 + years of equivalent experience
  • Motivated and deadline driven, self-starter with ability to deliver high-quality work products with limited oversight
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Detail- and results-oriented, possessing solid project management skills and ability to track and work across multiple projects
  • Strong interpersonal skills, an enthusiastic attitude and enjoys a team-based culture
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to dynamically prioritize and adjust
  • Collaborative, collegial, open and grounded in integrity
