Position Overview:

The University of Kansas, Kansas University Center on Developmental Disabilities (KUCDD), is recognized as a leading research center in the field of disability. KUCDD implements and conducts grant-funded projects focusing on (a) applied research on effective assessment and intervention practices with a particular focus on self-determination and transition to employment and (b) interdisciplinary training in the disability field. KUCDD is part of the Schiefelbusch Institute for Life Span Studies (LSI), a leading research unit at the University of Kansas. As a University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDD) funded by the Administration on Developmental Disabilities, the core functions of the KUCDD are:

  • Research
  • Interdisciplinary Training
  • Information Dissemination
  • Community Services (including technical assistance, community education, and direct services)

This position will work across projects to accomplish several objectives: manage development and delivery of training protocols and support materials related to interventions around self-determination including, the Self-Determined Learning Model of Instruction (SDLMI) and the Self-Determined Career Design Model (SDCDM); manage research activities and supervise staff and students; and co-author scientific papers or other dissemination products for presentation and publication. The ideal candidate will demonstrate an in-depth knowledge and interest in self-determination research and evidence-based best practices, has experience working with people with disabilities, and has previous project management experience with funded research studies.


  • Advanced degree in education, special education, psychology, or related discipline
  • Knowledge and experience with research related to: self-determination assessment and instruction; strengths-based education; transition to post-secondary education and employment; supports needs assessment
  • Proficiency with development of training materials and conducting trainings and presentations
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and research administration skills
