IDEA Data Center (IDC) Deputy Director - Westat, Rockville, MD or Durham, NC

Job Summary Westat is seeking a senior-level leader to join our education study area and conduct work associated with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). The successful candidate will (1) serve as a member of the IDC director team and (2) assist in growing Westat's portfolio of work in special education, early intervention, and technical assistance (TA) related to IDEA. IDC is a large TA center, funded by the U.S. Office of Special Education Programs,that focuses on building state capacity for collecting, reporting, analyzing, and using high-quality IDEA data (see ideadata.org).

Job Responsibilities

• Serve as IDC Deputy Director, working in partnership with IDC's two co-directors
• Direct senior staff and manage multiple tasks in a team-oriented environment
• Have frequent contact with clients and customers, including federal, state, and local education and early intervention staff
• Provide support to federal, state, and local efforts to implement, improve, and evaluate the quality of data used for federal reporting requirements and for program improvement under IDEA
• Lead or assist in developing proposals in response to federal and state funding opportunities

Job Requirements

• A Master's degree or equivalent degree in education or a related social science field
• 10 years of relevant experience in project management, budget stewardship, data collection, data analysis, reporting, program evaluation, and the provision of technical assistance
• Excellent writing, communication, and interpersonal skills

A Ph.D. or equivalent in education or a related social science field is preferred. Individuals with experience focused on issues and policies in special education or early intervention and those with experience working with state agency, district, or local early intervention program staff are preferred.
