As part of its statewide, land-grant mission, the University of Idaho's Special Education program invites applicants for a full-time, tenure track assistant professor. The successful candidate will be engaged in instruction, outreach, scholarly activity, and field-based supervision in an NCATE approved special education program.
The program offers advanced degree programs at the Master, Educational Specialist, and doctorate levels. The above program position will be located at the UI main campus in Moscow. Faculty may be expected to travel to other locations in Idaho and use distance technologies to deliver the program state-wide as part of UI's land-grant mission.
The Position:The Special Education program seeks candidates who, in their teaching, research and service, model special education as an intellectual, collaborative and ethical practice. The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to high quality instruction, scholarship, and outreach. Candidate must be able to contribute to the program's certification and degree programs at the Master and Educational Specialist levels. Instructional responsibilities may include special education methods, assessment, and law. Other responsibilities include participating as a member of the Special Education team and the department (CASPEL-Counseling and School Psychology, Special Education, Educational Leadership). The faculty are expected to advise Master and Educational Specialist students, engage in outreach, and supervise field experiences. The successful candidate will be expected to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with professionals in school districts and will have a demonstrated commitment to diversity. Program faculty are dedicated to serving students, providing outreach to rural communities and professionals and at-risk and minority students, and to personal renewal and development. The position may require leadership duties as Program Coordinator for Special Education, a staff of three tenure line positions, depending on the candidate's education and experience.
Required Qualifications:
The successful candidate must have 1) an earned doctorate degree in special education, 2) experience as a K-12 special education educator with evidence of capacity to work collaboratively with K-12 professionals, 3) evidence of ability to teach either qualitative or quantitative research and 4) demonstrated potential for or a record of scholarly research and publication.
Preferred Qualifications:
1) experience teaching at the university level in special education, 2) ability to manage and supervise internships and practica, 3) ability to establish partnerships with schools, educational agencies, and other stakeholders, 4) knowledge of NCATE accreditation, 5) experiences with distance delivery, 6) experience in a setting with diverse student populations, and 7) ability to provide program leadership.

Salary Range:
The salary range for the position is commensurate with rank, background, and experience. Opportunities for summer employment also exist. Additionally, the UI provides a comprehensive employment benefit program.
