Postdoctoral Researcher - Center for Research on Learning, University of Kansas

The Division of Adult Studies at the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kansas seeks a highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher to be part of a dynamic multidisciplinary team engaged in disability policy and health services research. This position provides mentored training and collaboration with nationally recognized faculty and other researchers who are on the leading edge of expanding knowledge in areas of health care access, quality of life, and employment for people with disabilities and chronic disease. This position will start in August 2007 and offers full health insurance benefits and excellent resources for career development. Applicants should have strong training in applied research and the ability to analyze complex data sets. The successful candidate will participate in ongoing research projects, including authorship of manuscripts, and will receive support for developing their own grant proposals and, if desired, have the opportunity to teach.

Evaluation of the position requirements will be made through: 1) records of accomplishment as documented in the curriculum vita; 2) description of research and educational experiences provided in the application materials; 3) references; 4) a letter accompanying credentials explaining career goals and interests; and/or 5) publications.

Responsibilities
  • Analyze existing data, using multivariate, HLM, SEM, and other methods as appropriate (30%).
  • Prepare data for publication and assist in writing manuscripts (30%).
  • Assist in day-to-day operation of two grant-funded projects (30%).
  • Present original research at professional conferences (5%).
  • Assist in preparation of new funding applications (5%).
Required Qualifications
  • Ph.D. or equivalent in health policy, health services research, public health, or related field.
  • At least one year of statistical analytical work involving health services or medical claims data.
  • A background in and understanding of Medicaid and Medicare programs as demonstrated by materials and/or information submitted though the application process which may include coursework, work experience and/or publications.
  • Experience with professional writing and presentations, as evidenced in the application materials.

 

NOTE: To be appointed at the Post Doctoral Researchers title, the candidate must have his/her PhD in hand. Those who have met all the requirements, but are waiting for the degree to be conferred will be appointed as a Research Assistant on an interim basis.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with people who have disabilities.
  • Programming skills.
  • Experience in working on both IBM and Macintosh platforms.
