AIR-P Launches New Academic Channel in Cureus
The Autism and Health: Across the Lifespan Channel (Autism and Health Channel) was founded in 2023 to promote research to increase the life expectancy and quality of life of autistic individuals. With broad support from national collaborative research entities, the goal of this academic channel is to serve as a forum to disseminate scientific articles which contribute to the evidence base of health promotion for autistic individuals and their families across the lifespan.

Perspectives on the Implementation of Pre-ETS Services: Identification of barriers and facilitators to early career planning for youth with disabilities
There are differences between and within states in the delivery of Pre-Employment Transition Services (Pre-ETS) for students with significant disabilities early in their career planning process. This complicates the delivery of services for these youth with disabilities (YWD) and leaves gaps in communication between families, educators, and vocational rehabilitation (VR) counselors.

Researchers Call for Systemic Changes to Improve Career Prospects of Young People with Disabilities
A deeper level and different kind of coordination, collaboration, and cooperation are needed to narrow the gap in employment opportunities between youth and young adults with and without disabilities. Experts present strategies to challenge the status quo that young people with disabilities face in the transition from school to employment in a special issue of the Journal of Vocational Rehabilitation.

2023 PATHS Partner Brunch
The Postsecondary Access and Training in Human Services (PATHS) program at Texas A&M University held their annual Partner Brunch on Saturday April 15, 2023. Our theme this year: "BEE Courageous" to Change Lives. This event is held every year to recognize both the partners and the students who have worked in the community this past year.

Blazing a trail: Ann Switzer 1st to complete UK's College and Career Studies Program
On Monday nights you'll find local artists eagerly waiting for their turn to play a few songs as part of an open mic night. They're greeted near the stage by a familiar face, sharing her love of music with the community built up at Kenwick Table. It's a role she discovered while in the University of Kentucky's College and Career Studies (CCS) Program which is coordinated by the UK Human Development Institute (HDI). Switzer piloted the program and is now the first to complete it. She will also receive an undergraduate certificate in universal design from UK and will be recognized for her accomplishments at an academic showcase with other UK students on May 4.

Congratulations go out to Dr. Daniel Armstrong, Professor & Executive Vice Chair and Department of Pediatrics, Director, Mailman Center for Child Development, University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, as the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce. On May 17, 2023 the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce held its Annual Health Care Heroes awards luncheon at Jungle Island in Miami, Florida. The event was attended by more than 450 Healthcare Professionals.

UM-NSU CARD Constituency Board Members Visit State Capitol
Five Constituency Board Members from University of Miami - Nova Southeastern University Center for Autism and Related Disabilities visited the state capitol of Tallahassee to both thank representatives who have supported UM-NSU CARD and educate policymakers on the importance of resources for the autism community to be included in the state budget.

MN LEND Graduates Celebrate
This year, 28 fellows have earned full MNLEND certificates, along with seven intermediate trainees who joined the program for a more limited, focused experience. They come from University of Minnesota academic disciplines, including Public Health Administration, Law, Social Work, Psychology, Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Pediatric Dentistry, and many more; or are community members in disability-related professions, self-advocates, or family advocates.

The Center Welcomes Kelly Kurtz Majewski as the New iGROW Program Director
We would like to welcome Kelly Majewski M.Ed. to the Center on Disability and Development at Texas A&M University Team! Kelly Kurtz Majewski has accepted the position of iGROW Program Director and will be leading the rural transition work in Central Texas as well as future replication sites across Texas. The iGROW impact report for year one is included in this post.

Vanderbilt Kennedy Center (TN IDDRC, UCEDD, LEND) Member Works to Improve Sleep Assessment in Down Syndrome Research
Vanderbilt Kennedy Center (VKC) member Sarika Peters, Ph.D., received a VKC Director's Strategic Priorities Grant to determine the feasibility of use of a wearable sensor to assess sleep in children (ages 4-10 years) with Down syndrome. Down syndrome is estimated to occur in 1 out of 700 babies and is associated with many co-occurring conditions including obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). OSA impacts between 50-79 percent of individuals with Down syndrome and the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends screening for OSA in children with Down syndrome starting at age 4.

Aggie ACHIEVE Ring Day
On Friday, April 14 the seven juniors and four seniors from the Aggie ACHIEVE program received the first-ever Aggie ACHIEVE Rings in a ceremony at the Rec center at Texas A&M. The ACHIEVE Ring represents the students' dedication to excellence in their 4 year certificate program of Interdisciplinary Studies. We are so proud of each student's accomplishments!

Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Proposes Two New Rules to Improve Medicaid and CHIP
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) have proposed two new rules that would improve the service and delivery of Medicaid and the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP), Ensuring Access to Medicaid Services and Medicaid and Children's Health Insurance Program Managed Care Access, Finance, and Quality. Both of the proposed rules aim to improve the access and quality of care, improve transparency, and address health inequity within Medicaid and Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP).
