Developmental Disabilities Institute at Wayne State University (MI UCEDD) Adds Two New Videos to Award Winning Possibilities Series

December 13, 2012

The Developmental Disabilities Institute (DDI) at Wayne State University in Detroit has added two new videos to its award winning Possibilities Video Series.  Possibilities focuses on the lives and accomplishments of individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities. Each 4-7 minute video highlights one or more individuals' life journeys, along with their family and friends, and shows the myriad possibilities and options that all people have as they grow up, become independent, and pursue their life's dreams and goals.

The purpose of the Possibilities Series is to present a vision of how individuals with disabilities and their families can lead the lives that they envision, without barriers and in the direction they truly wish to go. The hope is that these films are viewed and used by anyone who wants to explore all of the possibilities that their lives may hold!  With the addition of two new videos, the series now totals six features highlighting the accomplishments and journeys of individuals of various ages, races, abilities and dreams.

The videos were created and produced by Avalon Films of Royal Oak, Michigan, in conjunction with DDI and UCEDD Director Dr. Barbara LeRoy.  In November of 2012, Avalon Films and Avalon Director Larry August were honored by TASH with the TASH Positive Images in the Media Award which was presented during the TASH Annual Conference held in Long Beach, California, November 28-December 1.  The films were recognized for their positive contribution to the lives and image of persons with developmental and intellectual disabilities.

If you have any questions, are interested in obtaining one or more free copies of the video series on DVD, or would like to view the videos on the DDI website, please follow this link or email Michael Bray at DDI for ordering details.
