Timothy Brooks, PhD, (DE UCEDD) Receive the Gerald Kandler Award

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Delaware honored Tim Brooks, Center for Disabilities Studies disabilities specialist, with the Gerald Kandler Award at its annual dinner. Tim was recognized for his many years of service on the ACLU board, his dedication to persons with disabilities, and his advocacy for civil liberties on the University of Delaware campus and throughout the state. The Kandler Award is named for Gerald Kandler, an ACLU president who was deeply concerned about children with disabilities and served as a guiding force behind legislation that allowed children with disabilities to attend public schools in Delaware. Tim is former Dean of Students at the university and the parent of adult son with disabilities.

The national American Civil Liberties Union was founded in 1920 by a group of men and women working to protect the rights of conscientious objectors. Today, there are affiliates in nearly every state. The ACLU of Delaware was formed in 1961.
