Early Childhood Leadership Institute (CT UCEDD)

The University of Connecticut Center on Excellence in Developmental Disabilities sponsored a Leadership Institute in May of 2015 as part of the Early Childhood Personnel Center (ECPC). The purpose of the institute was to bring together states who have been participating in ECPC activities on workforce development. The participating states are receiving technical assistance on the integration of the Part C and Part B/619 programs into their states early childhood planning activities. Each state team consisted of representatives from their state Part C and Part B/619 programs, early childhood state agencies, Head Start, child care, higher education system, Families and graduate students. Of particular note was the fact that the following states included a UCEDD members were part of their state team: Anne Marie Davidson from Connecticut, Deana McGuire Buck from Virginia, Melissa Crist from Idaho and Deb Schell-Frank from Colorado. The states who participated were Alaska, Arizona, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Idaho, Nevada, Minnesota, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia.

The team members participated in sessions on a variety of topics including finance, collaboration, and the importance of stakeholder involvement, evaluation, and evidence-based practices in personnel development. The state teams completed their week with the refinement of individual state plans to guide their activities building Inegrated and Comprehensive System of Personnel Development (CSPD) for all infants and young children in their state.
