General Information
This annual meeting was an opportunity for Division of Maternal and Child Health Workforce Development (DMCHWD) grantees to convene and network around a cross-cutting topic of interest. The meeting was hosted by AUCD's Interdisciplinary Technical Assistance Center on Autism and Developmental Disabilities (ITAC).
Purpose
The meeting reviewed the MCH Leadership Competency 11: "Working with Communities and Systems." This included relevant definitions, knowledge areas, and foundational/advanced skills for professionals across all disciplines.
Content
We heard from three highlighted grantees who shared examples of comeplling, innovative and/or impactful work that was aligned with this competency. They shared strategies on implementing the competency within their Programs and supporting the development of the foundational and advanced skills to working with communities and systems. The full agenda, recording, and transcript are found on the right. We also provided a notetaking template for those who are joinining asynchronously to help attendees identify applicable strategies.
Presenters
The presenters representing MCHB workforce development grantees were:
University of Alabama at Birmingham's Leadership Education in Adolescent Health (LEAH) program discussed their tabletop SimUAB Opioid Simulation, an experiential learning tool that allows participants to navigate life as a person living with opioid use disorder, a health care provider, or a treatment counselor.
University of Minnesota's Nutrition Training Program discussed their collaborative project on positive deviance research working with the state department of health, American Indian Health, and WIC to reduce the prevalence of childhood obesity.
South Dakota's Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disabilities (LEND) programl presented on how they have leveraged their training program to build and sustain partnerships with tribal communities.
