Project Description
The goal of the New Hampshire Leadership Series is to support the development of self-advocacy and leadership skills in individuals and their family members who wish to affect change at a personal, community, and statewide level to support the full inclusion of individuals with disabilities in their schools and communities. Seven interactive sessions presented by respected leaders in community organizing, leadership development, the history of the disability movement in the state, the legislative process, and best practices in the inclusion of people with disabilities take place once a month from September through April. The Series connects participants to a growing community of leaders in the area of social justice for people with disabilities. Participants learn effective strategies that promote and support change as they learn about best practices in inclusive education, inclusive communities, effective employment, and creative housing strategies for people with disabilities. The New Hampshire Leadership Series is based on the national Partners in Policymaking model with input from the Colorado Partners in Leadership Series, as well as from twenty years of experience in examining the process and the outcomes of previous Leadership graduates. Their evaluations and fieldwork assignments have given extraordinary insight into the importance of and the personal impact of the Series.
