Project Description
This is a longitudinal project that follows the development of language in sets of twins starting at birth. These twins are ascertained through our collaborators in Australia. This augments our studies at the University of Kansas by covering the emergence of language and following its development through to school age. From this population, twins who develop language problems and their families are asked to participate in genetic studies. In addition to the identification of genes that contribute to language impairment, we are also studying epigenetic factors that may regulate these genes and also contribute to disability.
