Supported Employment Training and Technical Assistance Project
Project Description:
The State of Vermont Division of Vocational Rehabilitation and Division of Developmental and Mental Health Services funds two positions to provide training and technical assistance to supported employment programs throughout the state.
The staff coordinate and provide state wide training in the following areas:
? Introductory Supported Employment Training: this three day training is for beginning employment specialists to obtain a practical understanding of the values, philosophies, and practices of the supported employment process. This training is offered three times a year.
? Specialized Training Seminars: one day seminars for advanced training. Training topics include Natural Supports in Supported Employment, Business Partnerships and Job Development, Challenging Behaviors and Social Skills, Systematic Training Techniques for Supported Employment, Vocational Strategies for Youth with Emotional Behavioral Disability, and Supported Employment for People with Psychiatric Disabilities.
The staff provide technical assistance to individual schools and agencies throughout the state. Eight agencies are identified as priority programs each year. Staff also respond to individual requests for assistance. This can range from job site analysis to being part of student IEP/Transition meetings to providing inservice training to agencies. Staff are involved in the State Core Transition Team, the Vermont State Supported Employment Team and the Vermont Association for Persons in Supported Employment.
