Employment & Economic Security

Image of a young woman holding a tablet and smiling at the camera.AUCD believes that meaningful employment and economic security are essential to independence, community inclusion, and quality of life for people with disabilities. Everyone should have the opportunity to work in jobs that are fairly compensated, inclusive, and aligned with their interests and strengths.

AUCD works to expand opportunities for competitive integrated employment (CIE), as well as microenterprise and self-employment. We advocate for policies that set clear expectations for CIE and build the infrastructure needed to support it, including improved coordination across education, vocational rehabilitation, Medicaid, and workforce systems.

We are committed to phasing out the use of subminimum wage and segregated employment by supporting organizations and systems as they transition to inclusive employment models. AUCD also prioritizes strengthening the transition from school to adult life so that young people with disabilities are prepared for employment and economic independence.

AUCD recognizes that economic security—including access to benefits, income supports, and asset-building opportunities—is foundational to employment success and workforce participation.

This page includes AUCD’s policy work, advocacy, and resources related to employment and economic security for people with disabilities.
