Education

AUCD believes that all children and youth with disabilities have the right to a high-quality education that prepares them for further education, employment, and community life. Education systems must be inclusive, adequately resourced, and responsive to the individualized needs of every student.

AUCD works to ensure that students with disabilities receive a free appropriate public education (FAPE) that supports meaningful progress. We advocate for individualized supports and services, high-quality instruction, and access to the general education curriculum in age-appropriate and inclusive settings.

Our education policy work emphasizes accountability, equity, and sufficient funding to ensure that students with disabilities can learn alongside their peers and achieve their full potential.

This page includes AUCD’s education-related policy resources, advocacy efforts, and tools for advancing inclusive and effective educational systems.

Since 2010, the Transition Programs for Students with Intellectual Disabilities (TPSID) program has supported the creation or expansion of replicable model programs at 127 colleges and universities serving almost 5,000 students with intellectual disabilities (ID) in 34 states.
