Rights
AUCD believes that civil and human rights are fundamental to full community inclusion and self-determination for people with disabilities. We are committed to protecting and strengthening the legal frameworks that ensure equal opportunity, access, and dignity.
Our work focuses on safeguarding and advancing civil rights laws, including the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the Rehabilitation Act, and ensuring their effective implementation and enforcement. AUCD engages in policy and advocacy efforts to address inequities experienced by people with disabilities at the national, state, tribal, territorial, and local levels.
AUCD also works to protect and expand access to the ballot, recognizing voting as a cornerstone of civic participation. We advocate for policies and practices that ensure every person with a disability can register to vote and cast a ballot privately and independently in federal elections.
This page houses AUCD’s advocacy, policy priorities, and resources related to disability rights and civil rights protections.
