AUCD believes that strong, well-funded disability systems are essential to advancing equity, opportunity, and community inclusion for people with disabilities nationwide. These systems form the backbone of research, training, service delivery, and policy implementation.
AUCD works to protect and strengthen all AUCD Network Centers and Programs, including through advocacy in the federal budget and appropriations process. Sustained and adequate funding is critical to ensure these programs can meet their missions and respond to emerging needs.
Beyond the AUCD Network, we advocate for robust funding and protection of other federal disability programs that support health, education, employment, and community living. Investments in these foundational systems are necessary for people with disabilities to thrive across the lifespan.
This page includes AUCD’s policy priorities, budget and appropriations advocacy, and resources related to foundational disability systems.

The purpose of the Developmental Disabilities Assistance and Bill of Rights Act of 2000 (the DD Act) is to assure that people with developmental disabilities and their families participate in the design of, and have access to, needed community services, individualized supports, and other forms of assistance that promote self-determination, independence, productivity, and integration in all facets of community life, through culturally competent programs authorized under the law.
The Autism CARES Act was last passed in 2019 and must be reauthorized by September 30, 2024.
