Project Description:
The purpose of Parents Reaching Out is to increase supports for parents and caregivers of a child, age 0-3, with a hearing difference.
Because of the low incidence of hearing differences, families of children who are deaf or hard of hearing often feel isolated from each other and do not typically have support opportunities in their already-established community. Our goal is to provide peer-to-peer supports for families of children age 0-3 that have a hearing difference. This support program facilitates connection between family members seeking support and resources and trained family support parents, recruits and trains parents/caregivers to provide support, facilitates 1:1 matching, and hosts group events. PRO partners with the Newborn Screening Team to collect information and feedback on the needs of families and document program activities in WE-TRAC. PRO maintains statewide relationships with other programs that support children with hearing differences and their families.
