Project Description:
The University of Wisconsin-Madison (specifically Danielle Gerber, family engagement specialist and project PI) will partner with the Bluebird Way Foundation to host and produce 5 virtual Family-Led Academic Grand "FLAG" Rounds for Pediatrics. These national, quarterly educational sessions will be led and presented by families focused on holistic and intersecting aspects of clinical, social, environmental, and educational issues involved in the care of children with disability and/or medical complexity. FLAG Rounds flips the traditional model and embraces family (inclusive of family and youth) as educators. Families will present an aspect of their "case" as a story and then offer strategies to develop knowledge, skills and abilities to perform, or partner in, the essential activities of care of children with disability and/or medical complexity. We will utilize narrative medicine, the Accreditation of Council of Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) 6 Core Competencies and Pediatric Milestones, Core Competencies on Disability for Health Care Education and the Complex Care Entrustable Professional Care Activities (EPAs) as the guide to create learning objectives, didactics, and curriculum for each session. The target audience will be pediatric trainees (medical students, residents and fellows) and faculty learners/ medical educators, and we will also offer continuing medical education credits to pediatricians and open the sessions to the public.
