Care that Connects: Building Inclusive Partnerships (GUCEDD-NCC partnership)
Project Description:
This training and professional development project is funded by the Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) in the District and brings together the National Children's Center (NCC) and the Georgetown University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (GUCEDD) to strengthen inclusive practices for young children with or at risk for developmental disabilities or delays. Guided by insights from a January 2025 Family Inclusion Needs Assessment the GUCEDD will design and deliver seven tailored training sessions for NCC family members and educators. These sessions address families' priorities for supporting their children's self-help, social-emotional, speech and language, and cognitive development, and focus on practical inclusion strategies—such as building positive peer and teacher relationships, adapting materials, and supporting learning at each child's own pace. The project also centers staff wellness and recognizes the importance of nurturing strong, trusting partnerships within the unique sociocultural context of NCC's children, families, and educators, so that every child can thrive in an inclusive and supportive community.
