The Alliance of Persons with Disabilities (PWD) and Intersectionality for Inclusion, Networking, and Transition Opportunities in STEM (TAPDINTO-STEM)
Project Description:
For the U.S. to be globally competitive in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields, talent must be developed in all sectors of our population, including persons with disabilities (PWD) whose inclusion in STEM fields remains a challenge. Leveraging upon past successful NSF funded programs focused on training STEM students with disabilities (SWD), this consortium, in partnership with additional universities, intends to to drastically scale up these efforts to meet this challenge nationally through the formation of The Alliance of Persons with Disabilities (PWD) and Intersectionality for Inclusion, Networking, and Transition Opportunities in STEM (TAPDINTO-STEM) consisting of colleges and universities, organizations, and government and corporate partners. Colleges and universities are grouped into 6 hubs.
Hubs and Lead Institutions:
1. The Islands: University of Hawaii, HI
2. West Coast: University of Washington, WA
3. Mountain Region: Northern Arizona University, AZ
4. Mid-West: University of Missouri – Kansas City, MO
5. South East: Auburn University, AL
6. North East: Ohio State University, OH
The University of Wyoming, through WIND, has received a subaward from NAU via Auburn University, to provide support to STEM students at the University of Wyoming to include those students in data collection to expand efforts to widen pathways for students with disabilities to pursue education in STEM fields.
