Project Description:
The purpose of the Idaho Project for Children and Youth with Deaf-Blindness is to enhance the quality of educational and community-based services for infants, toddlers, children, and young adults in Idaho who are deaf-blind. The project will increase the capacity of families and service providers through a coordinated and collaborative technical assistance system with university preservice programs, the Idaho State Department of Education, local educational agencies, early intervention and transition services, as well as the communities throughtout the state. The goals of the project include identification of infants, toddlers, children, and youth in Idaho who are deaf-blind; building the capactiy of families to enhance their children's education and development; increasing the capacity of teachers and other service providers to provide quality educational, transitional, and related services; and, creating a process to gain community oversight, coordination and collaboration at the state and local level.
Project activities to support service providers and families include an in-state Transdisciplinary Team, access to other qualified consultants, a newsletter, a webpage, fact sheets, a parent resource directory, a video and materials lending library, trainings, and webinars for teachers, paraprofessionals, support personnel, and parents.
