24-Hour Postural Care Project

Center:
Fiscal Year:
2023
Contact Information:
Project Description:
Children with movement disorders are at risk of developing body distortions such as scoliosis, ribcage rotational deformities, and hip displacement, due to the impact of gravity on their body in sitting, standing and lying postures. 24-Hour Postural Care is an interdisciplinary approach to considering how gravity is impacting the body while assessing how much time is spent in different positions throughout the 24-hour cycle. Awareness and implementation of 24-Hour Postural Care is limited in the US and in Vermont. The goal of 24-Hour Postural Care is to support the child day and night to enable symmetry, comfort, improved sleep, decreased pain, and increased participation. The goal of this project is to provide technical assistance to providers in Vermont to increase their capacity to provide 24-Hour Postural Care.
