Project Description:
The National Core Indicators (NCI) Project is a voluntary effort by public developmental disabilities agencies to measure and track their own performance. The Core Indicators are standard measures used across states to assess the outcomes of services provided to individuals and families. Indicators address key areas of concern including employment, rights, service planning, community inclusion, choice, and health and safety. Within the state of Ohio the Department of Developmental Disabilities (DODD) measures system performance and collects system-level data through National Core Indicators (NCI) surveys. The data is then used to monitor, make decisions, allocate resources, and develop plans to improve the quality of life for the people they serve across the state. Individuals who receive services through DODD are eligible to be randomly selected to participate. Beginning in October 2015, the Nisonger Center began administering the NCI surveys for DODD through face-to-face interviews with approximately 700 adult consumers, both living in ICF/IIDs and those receiving home and community-based services. In addition, up to 100 individuals who have moved from a Developmental Center into a community setting were asked to participate in the survey. Starting October 2020 Nisonger Center will start interviewing virtually through a HIPAA complaint version of Zoom. Tablets with internet service will be given to those who do not have a device or internet to use during an interview. The goal is to interview 600 adults with disabilities, both living in ICF/IIDs and those receiving home and community-based services. In addition, up to 400 individuals will be interviewed in a ICF.
