Summary:
The project aims to take an in-depth look at the role technology plays in the lives of people with developmental disabilities and their family members to promote technology use today and prepare for future technology advancement and trends. The project can be broken into several sub categories: Research, Remote Support Expansion, Smart Home Discovery Place, and TechSummit,
Research: Investigate technology and technology trends locally and nationally that enhance the ability of individuals with developmental disabilities to live independently, especially as it relates to the use of remote support.
Remote Support Expansion: Increase the use of remote support across Ohio.
Smart Home Discovery Place: A built environment resembling a one bedroom apartment, showcasing technology to help individuals with developmental disabilities, their family members, and professionals better understand how technology can help someone live with greater independence. Tours are conducted and the technology is updated regularly.
TechSummit: A reoccurring conference at which attendees can hear presentations about technology use to benefit people with developmental disabilities, interact with organizations and vendors of technology, and try technologies that might enhance the independence of someone with developmental disabilities.
