DODD - Peer to Peer Community Counseling
Project Description:
The focus of this project is to conduct interviews with adults with developmental disabilities who currently live in an Intermediate Care Facility for Individuals with Intellectual Disability (ICF/IID) and/or their parents/guardians and meeting with them to answer questions they might have about living in the community. The adults with DD and/or their parents/guardians are in process of deciding if they would like to move out of their home/ICF-IID to live in a home in the community. The Ohio State University Nisonger Center has recruited and trained a team of peer-counselors, including adults with developmental disabilities and parents/family members of adults with developmental disabilities to conduct community counseling. During the community counseling our peer counselors will offer to answer any questions the individuals or family members may have around community living and community options.
