Project Description:
Finding Me: How to Advocate for the Life You Want, is a curriculum that guides participants through the process of writing a Personal Statement, which is a document designed to help people with developmental disabilities articulate their opinions about and satisfaction with key facets of their life. Individuals can then use their Personal Statements to become more self-determined and advocate for themselves in a variety of contexts, including ISP meetings. Finding Me is divided into 10 topics that range from health and wellness to social relationships, and is intended to be used in small groups of 3 to 6 participants. The process takes approximately 12 weeks (if meeting once per week), culminating in the completion of individual Personal Statements. Finding Me is also written in plain, accessible language.
