Project Description:
Funded by the U.S. Department of Education, the Model Comprehensive Transition and Postsecondary Programs for Students with Intellectual Disabilities (TPSID) provides grants to institutions of higher education or consortia of institutions of higher education to enable them to create or expand high quality, inclusive model comprehensive transition and postsecondary programs for students with intellectual disabilities. Certificate programs will be developed at the University of Vermont and Johnson State College for students with intellectual disabilities (age 18-26) to experience: -Academic Enrichment -Socialization -Independent Living Skills (including self-advocacy) -Integrated Work Experiences & Career Skills Existing programs have shown that students with ID involved in post-secondary education are 26% more likely to get a job and earn a 73% higher weekly income. Plus, it provides opportunities for teacher preparation programs & other professional preparation initiatives for matriculated students, while increasing the overall inclusive culture of the university or college.
