Project Description:
AT Proposal for Specialized AT Services through a Fee for Service Model at the Center on Disability and Community Inclusion at the University of Vermont Purpose of Pilot: 1) To increase internal capacity within school systems to proficiently utilize the SETT (Student, Environment, Tasks, and Tools) Process for AT consideration. The SETT is a nationally recognized model which utilizes a team based approach to systematically and comprehensively consider Assistive Technology and successfully implement tools for students. S- Student Student strengths, abilities and skills E- Environment Environments in which the student functions, classrooms and situations where help is needed. T- Tasks What tasks does the student need to be able to accomplish in order to meet IEP goals T- Tools - Assistive Technology or services needed to address these tasks 2) Additionally, the pilot will provide school teams with a self-evaluation tool that will enable them to measure their alignment with the Quality Indicators for Assistive Technology (QIAT). Nationally, the Quality Indicators for Assistive Technology are viewed as best practices for schools to strive for in their implementation of effective Assistive Technology services. Goals: 1) To provide training and/or technical assistance to schools, from an AT Consultant contracted through CDCI/UVM, on implementation of the SETT Process. 2) To obtain baseline measures on the proficiency of school teams with the SETT process and demonstrate the effectiveness of training and technical assistance in increasing their proficiency. This information will assist CDCI to determine the Fee for Service (FFS) structure for Specialized AT Services in FY15.
