Deaf-Blind Equipment Distribution

Center:
Fiscal Year:
2014
Contact Information:
Project Description:
Advances in technology have dramatically changed the way in which we communicate. The wide variety of digital and Internet based voice, text, and video communication methods allow individuals to achieve greater independence, productivity, safety and security. The creation of these technologies has enabled a wide range of consumers to use new ways to find employment, purchase products, and engage in the civil and social life of their communities. Yet, these new technologies have remained largely unavailable or inaccessible for individuals who are deaf-blind. The Idaho National Deaf/Blind Equipment Distribution Program will distribute specialized customer premises equipment (CPE) to low-income individuals through assessment, procurement and services, to ensure effective access to telecommunications, Internet access, and advanced communications, including interexchange and advanced telecommunications and information services for individuals who are deaf-blind.
