DDS/SSA/AUCD Collaboration Contract

Center:
Fiscal Year:
2004
Contact Information:
Project Description:
The goal of the project is to promote closer collaboration between the Tennessee Disability Determination Service, the Social Security Administration, and agencies serving children, especially young children, who may be eligible for Supplemental Security Income (SSI). The DDS is charged with determining whether an applicant who is financially eligible has a disability that meets federal requirements. If existing records from physicians, hospitals, Head Start, schools, etc. can substantiate or refute the claim of disability, DDS does not have to buy a consulting examination from a physician, psychologist, or speech/language pathologist. The collaboration sought by this project is designed to reduce the time and expense in obtaining the information needed to adjudicate claims of disability in children.
