Wisconsin Sound Beginnings:Reducing Loss to Follow-up after Failure to Pass Newborn Hearing Screening.
Project Description:
Wisconsin Sound Beginnings received an MCHB grant to reduce loss to follow up following newborn hearing screening to meet these goals:
GOAL 1: Increase the percentage of Wisconsin babies with a documented hearing screening to greater than 99% by 2014.
GOAL 2: Increase the percentage of infants who receive follow-up after initial hearing screening to 97% by 2014.
GOAL 3: Increase the number of children who are deaf or hard of hearing enrolled in early intervention services prior to 6 months of age, in order to optimize their developmental outcomes.
GOAL 4: Institutionalize protocols for state level follow-up supported by data collection and continuous program evaluation.
Waisman Center staff will assist in implementing key functions of the project through a partnership with the Title V Program, including an evaluation of early intervention outcomes following a protocol similar to Colorado, and adding a social emotional component.
