Institute of Continued Education for Special Education Teachers from 0 to 5 Years
One of the most prestigious organism that sees over the preparation of professionals in the Early Intervention area has been the ÂCouncil for Exceptional ChildrenÂ. The council states that the staff education is one of the most important elements for achieving and maintaining a high quality in services. This makes imperative to train and prepare our teachers with the latest state of the art techniques and innovation in the early intervention and special Education Area.
To this effect the PRUCEDD has developed a 72 hours curriculum for teachers of Head Start and other Scenarios with children from 0 to 5 years. Sessions will comprehend conferences and skill development activities. The certification will be offered during 10 months. The coordination of the initiative will be responsibility of the community training unit of the PRUCEDD. Each training session will correspond to 6 hours of presence contacts. Sessions will take place on Saturdays at the Graduate school of Public Health. The School will certified the curriculum to be offered. The fundamental concept of the curricular content is base on the ecologic model of human development.
At the end of the Special Education Certificate, the participant teachers will be able to:
1. Analyze the actual tendencies in Early Education and Special Education
2. Apply the theories of typical and atypical child development and apply founding of recent research on the families and communities learning environments.
3. Describe Developmental disabilities and associated conditions
4. Identified and use instruments and procedures of evaluation including those base on observation, that support decisions on child learning and development.
5. To use the ASQ screening questionnaire.
6. Describe the importance of family in the system of administering services and the strategies to establishing relations with them.
7. Planning, Implementing and evaluating and appropriated individualize curriculum with practices base on the knowledge of the child, the family and the community as well as the goals and content of the curriculum.
8. Development of a PISF and PEI incorporing achievements (Goals) for the child as well as for the family, working as a team with family and other Professionals.
9. Select and utilize support strategies and behavior management appropriated for each child from the lest structured, to the most structured (ABA).
10. articulated the various elements of the Center environment in order to be inclusive
