Project Description:
Faculty and staff from the Boling Center provide developmental pediatrics and psychology consultation and direct service in the Developmental Follow-up Clinic associated with the Newborn Intensive Care Unit of the Regional Medical Center at Memphis (The Med). This clinic follows "graduates" of the NICU who weighed less than 1000 grams from hospital discharge until at least one year of age, and often until three years. The goal is to detect signs of developmental disabilities as early as possible in this high-risk group and refer them into intervention in order to overcome or minimize disability. One faculty member also provides research oversight for the clinic's participation in the Maternal Lifestyles Study.
