Detroit Institute for Children Early On Initiative
Project Description:
This project measures the effectiveness of the Early On Collaborative Initiative in its efforts to maximize interagency coordination for children with disabilities. Needs assessments were conducted with families and Detroit Institute for Children (DIC) staff to identify information needs, strengths of families and staff, and any barriers to participation and implementation of the program. The needs assessment questionnaires were distributed to families and DIC staff. In addition, a needs assessment was conducted with community service providers to determine their level of familiarity with the Early On program at DIC, the extent to which they were making referrals to the DIC Early On Initiative, and any barriers to their referring their children with disabilities to the DIC Early On Initiative. The Developmental Disabilities Institute also conducted the evaluation of the DIC Early On Program and its impact on families, children (0-3 years), and service providers in Wayne County. This evaluation had both a formative and summative (outcomes based) component.
