Bear River Activity and Skill Center
Project Description:
Bear River Activity and Skill Center (BRASC) provides day training for individuals with relatively severe disabilities. Teaching functional academic, social, daily living, and other skills is emphasized in the day training program. In addition, BRASC offers family support services including respite, latch key, and summer recreation. Supported living services, which help individuals with disabilities to live in their communities, are also offered. Finally, supported employment services, emphasizing community-based job development and placement, are offered.
During the July 1, 2005 ? June 30, 2006 period, BRASC provided day training for 13 individuals, family support, including summer recreation, for 33 families, and supported employment for 33 individuals. In conjunction with its service programs, BRASC provided employment for 40 students.
BRASC and its sister program in Brigham City, LINC, have cooperated in assisting Rehabilitation faculty with a dual diagnosis research project. A database designed to help predict mental illness in people with disabilities and assess treatment efficacy is being developed. BRASC and LINC have had input into the design of the database and will be participating in field testing it.
