Enhancement of Pediatric Dental Residency

        Project Description:
The Pediatric Dental Graduate Training Program of the UNMC College of Dentistry is located at the University Center of Excellence on Developmental Disabilities (UCEDD). This Pediatric Dental program, while co-located at the Munroe-Meyer Institute, had little interaction with the overall Interdisciplinary Program at MMI in the past. Through a joint training grant from the HRSA Bureau of Health Professions, an Interdisciplinary Training Program was designed to provide enhanced training and experiences for pediatric dental residents. Residency training has been expanded through the provision of an interdisciplinary training experience with the other disciplines at MMI, training in research methods/statistics, education in behavior management/positive behavior supports, increased exposure to children with Craniofacial Anomalies, and community-based dental services to underprivileged children. This two-year residency training program serves 6 to 7 students annually and a total of 20 residents will have completed their enhanced training program by the end of the fiscal year.
