There is a continued need to increase awareness, knowledge, and effective implementation of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) among individuals with complex communication needs, their families, educators, healthcare providers, employers, and other community partners. Limited training opportunities and persistent misconceptions about AAC can delay communication access and reduce participation in education, employment, healthcare, and community life. The Center on Human Development and Disability (CHDD) addresses this need through interdisciplinary education, continuing education, technical assistance, presentations, webinars, and community outreach that promote evidence-based AAC practices across the lifespan. A distinguishing feature of these efforts is CHDD's national and international reach, collaborating with universities, professional organizations, disability organizations, and community partners to develop and disseminate practical, evidence-based AAC resources. Through both in-person and virtual training opportunities, CHDD extends its impact well beyond Georgia, reaching audiences across the United States and internationally. These activities are expected to improve awareness and implementation of AAC, strengthen communication supports, and increase opportunities for individuals with complex communication needs to participate in education, employment, healthcare, and community life.
