3.10 The Future of Student Support: AI-empowered Digital Twin Campus and Virtual Coach for Students with Specific Learning Disabilities and ADHD
Project Description:
The purpose of this study is to develop and evaluate a prototype system that combines a Digital Twin Campus (DTC) and an AI-empowered Virtual Coach (VC) to support college students with Specific Learning Disabilities (SLD) and Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). The system is designed to enhance students' ability to identify and utilize campus resources and to build a cohesive academic and social support system. As a prototype, the focus is specifically on first-year students to facilitate their transition and integration into university life. The specific aims are:
1. To design and implement an interactive Digital Twin Campus (DTC) that replicates the physical and organizational structures of a real university campus, providing students with an immersive, remote-access platform for learning and resource navigation.
2. To develop an AI-based Virtual Coach (VC) that delivers personalized, human-like interactions to support students in areas such as academic skills, personal development, and mental health.
3. To integrate the DTC and VC into a unified system that delivers personalized, student-centered, and accessible support specifically tailored to the needs of first-year students with SLD and ADHD.
4. To evaluate the effectiveness of the prototype in helping students (a) identify and utilize campus resources, and (b) build and maintain a strong academic and social support network during the first year of college.
