Project Description:
The purpose of the project is to prepare practitioners (general education teachers, special education teachers, paraprofessionals, specials teachers) to implement academic and behavior-based interventions grounded in ABA to students with ASD. This project extends our work from the previous AGP grant (2020-2022) by supporting students with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) through a tiered training model on the foundations and applications of applied behavior analysis (ABA) for practitioners, who serve students with ASD. Further, we will incorporate, maintain, and update as needed the asynchronous training developed in our center's previous iteration of this project. Our target population are school-based practitioners (e.g., paraprofessionals, special education teachers, general education teachers, specials teachers) who serve students with ASD in public and charter schools. The goal is to provide direct services to 1,020 students with ASD by training 255 school-based practitioners in applied behavior analysis (ABA) using workshops, a tiered-model of training and support, and ongoing access to continuing education modules. To achieve this, we will engage in high-impact recruitment strategies, update and reformat workshops to support school-based practitioners in the acquisition of ABA interventions skills, and conduct regular evaluation and continuous improvement. We use behavior skills training and a tiered approach to continue to support workshop participants after workshops have concluded along with access to the continuing education modules.
