Project Description:
The PIECE (Pre-vocational Integrated Education, and Campus Experience) Project is a partnership between The Ohio State University and the Franklin County Board of Developmental Disabilities and ARC Industries to provide training on vocational skills and independent living skills for adults with developmental disabilities. Project Activities - Identifying, recruiting, and securing potential internship sites: OSU personnel will partner with ARC Industries staff to identity, recruit, and secure potential internship sites in Fall/Winter 2025. Internships will begin in January 2026. - Complete Career Discovery and adaptive skill assessment: OSU personnel will partner with ARC Industries staff to complete career discover profiles. OSU undergraduate and/or graduate students in special education will complete supplemental assessments on transition-related skills in Fall 2025. - Initial meetings with parents and participants: OSU personnel will partner with ARC Industries staff to hold an initial meeting with parents and participants - 2-day initial training of job coaches: In Fall 2025 OSU personnel will hold a 2-day training in which they share practical evidence-based strategies with job coaches that can be used to teach job skills to participants. As a supplement to this training, up to 3 staff members will be invited to audit an assessment course in Fall 2025, and an instructional methods course in Spring 2026. - Internships 2 days per week with ongoing on-site technical assistance for job coaches: In Spring 2025, OSU personnel and ARC Industries staff will partner with support participants in internships experiences 2 days per week. OSU personnel will regularly visit sites and provide on-site technical assistance and support. - Skill instruction on campus 3 hours/week: In Spring 2025, OSU personnel will plan and lead skill instruction to participants for 3 hours one day each week. Closing ceremony: OSU personnel will plan and host a closing ceremony to recognize all participants. This will be an opportunity for participants to celebrate their accomplishments and share their progress toward their own goals
