Project Description:
"1. By December 2025, the SotS team will have administered and analyzed the results of 2,000 Technology Needs and Barriers Surveys by adult HCBS recipients with cognitive disabilities (brain injury, intellectual and developmental disabilities, and frail elderly) across the state. The KU Technology Needs and Barriers Survey is a nationally validated and cognitively accessible online measurement tool for technology assessment.
2. By December 2025, the SotS team will educate Targeted Case Managers (TCMs) (minimum N=50) across the state in identifying technology solutions to support individual goal attainment through the administration of five open online accessible training sessions and the facilitation of a T1K TCM Community of Practice (CoP) for sharing promising practices and long-term learning.
3. In September 2025, the SotS team will lead and facilitate a full day T1K Think Tank event of approximately 50 stakeholders and subject matter experts across the state to identify future investments in technology policy and practice for advancing accessibility and fostering community engagement.
4. By December 2025, the SotS team will have established and educated a 15 -person T1K Advisory Council comprised of people with lived experience and family members to translate project outputs into cognitively accessible products and provide peer leadership in accessible knowledge translation for technology advocacy across programs and services.
5. By December 2025, the SotS team will have completed an environmental scan of the local technology companies in Kansas to evaluate the feasibility and sustainability of a user testing hub to support innovators in technology identify disability accessibility features and promote inclusive design.
6. By December 2025, the SotS team will have provided grant management for the project and analyzed cross-program data for the T1K Project Impact Report.
ATK's goals:
1. Provide free access to a continuum of low, medium, high assistive technology devices (minimum N = 400) across all AT categories to older adults and individuals with disabilities of all ages for purposes of decision-making regarding their ability to meet personal goals of inclusion, communication, behavioral health and wellness, education, employment, and meaningful participation in the community.
2. Conduct 10 virtual and 9 in-person outreach and training events and create 20 video reels to develop new community partnerships to expand the network of community service providers and advocacy groups who know how to help older adults and individuals with disabilities access devices and services they need.
3. Coordinate two in-person AT Fairs for individuals with disabilities, older Kansans, service providers, and professionals highlighting a comprehensive range of current and emerging assistive technology devices and how to help older adults and individuals with disabilities of all ages learn about and acquire needed devices to achieve personal goals of community inclusion, independence, health and wellness, and employment.
4. Update and disseminate the Assistive Technology for Kansans Fund Manual (12 sections) and create 12 "How to Fund" worksheets for specific types of assistive technology devices to increase acquisition of needed technology and teach professionals and individuals how to develop funding justification requests for public and private funding supports
5. Complete and share with T1K project leadership bimonthly and final project impact report and participate in the February project review with KDADS staff. After the funding period, continue to report sustainable initiatives to the ATK Council on an annual basis."
