Project Description:

The Montana Primary Care Office (PCO), housed within the Department of Public Health & Human Services (MT DPHHS), plays a critical role in improving access to primary care for uninsured, medically underserved, and vulnerable populations. The PCO is responsible for assessing Health Professional Shortage Areas (HPSAs), administering loan repayment programs, and recommending J-1 visa waivers to address provider shortages. To fulfill its mission, the PCO requires a comprehensive, data-driven Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA) to evaluate healthcare disparities, identify workforce gaps, and guide policies that enhance health services across Montana. The goals of the CHNA are to: 1. Identify unmet healthcare needs across Montana's rural and underserved populations, with a focus on primary, dental, and mental health services. 2. Analyze differences in health outcomes, including those based on geography, socioeconomic status, and other key factors. 3. Assess systemic barriers to healthcare access, such as infrastructure limitations, workforce shortages, and policy challenges. 4. Provide actionable recommendations to inform Montana PCO's strategies for improving healthcare access and workforce development.
