Gutierrez, Sage: Collaborative Access for Rural Empowerment (CARE)
Project Description:
The Collaborative Access for Rural Empowerment (CARE) Program and the Rural Independent Living and Libraries (RILL) Peer Network are participatory development projects of the Rural Institute for Inclusive Communities. The Rural Institute is partnering with the Association for Rural and Small Libraries (ARSL) and the Association of Programs for Rural Independent Living (APRIL) to create a team that connects rural libraries and rural Centers for Independent Living (CILs) to share insights and codesign programs, activities, and resources that meet the needs of ALL their residents. Project goals include: • Replicable rural-centered projects codesigned with rural disabled people to show how tools and resources can be implemented. • Context-specific strategies and outcomes that benefit rural people with disabilities and improve community connections. • Rural outreach tools for reaching diverse audiences. • Publications, presentations, and web resources illustrating the work. • Continued information sharing in communities and networks. This is a unique project that bridges the gap between two different rural community-based organizations to improve services for rural people with disabilities.
